Oravecz Family Endowed Scholarship/ Award
The Oravecz Family Endowed Scholarship/Award was established by Mark Oravecz in 2022 to honor his family's deep connection to The ÈÕº«¹ú²úav¸£Àû of Akron and to provide scholarship assistance to deserving UA students.
Mark's parents, Andrew and Phyllis Oravecz, met as students at The ÈÕº«¹ú²úav¸£Àû of Akron. Both earned bachelor's degrees in education in 1949. Andrew also earned a master's degree in educational administration In 1960. He was an award-winning teacher with the Akron Public Schools, retiring with 30 years of service.
In continuation of the legacy established by his parents, Mark also attended The ÈÕº«¹ú²úav¸£Àû of Akron, earning an associate degree in data processing in 1976 and a bachelor's degree in accounting in 1979. Mark retired from Bridgestone Firestone in 2020 after a storied 44-year career with the company.
Mark's brother, Paul Oravecz, also attended The ÈÕº«¹ú²úav¸£Àû of Akron and spent 42 years working for The Lubrizol Corporation.
The Oravecz Family Endowed Scholarship/Award will be awarded annually to one or more students enrolled at The ÈÕº«¹ú²úav¸£Àû of Akron. The scholarship may be applied toward the cost of tuition, fees, and on-campus room and board on the recipient's student account. Award decisions will be determined by the ÈÕº«¹ú²úav¸£Àû Scholarship Committee. Distributions used for expenses other than qualified educational expenses are reportable and/or taxable to the recipient.
